Schneider Racing Slicks on C180

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Schneider Racing Slicks on C180

I ran across this picture and thought it kind of cool. Anyone here have experience with such a tire setup?

Re: Schneider Racing Slicks on C180

My friend Craig said they worked well for flotation when he was living in Wasilla (1980's early 90's)

Looks like they have a nice broad footprint. That is an unusual looking landing gear on that Cub. What is the member that attaches to the fuselage forward of the main trusses?

Re: Schneider Racing Slicks on C180

I suppose they knock down a little more wind being more of a "square" vs. normal aircraft tires. Wonder if it's noticeably different when you land in a crosswind and are riding the corner?

There are still a couple 180s around King Salmon with Hoosier racing slicks, I hear they don't do too bad. They were Field Approved a long time ago when the Feds would approve that kind of stuff.

The extra gear pieces on that Cub are for hydraulic wheel skis.

Schneider has/had STCs for the racing slicks.

Re: Schneider Racing Slicks on C180

Friend of mine in Coffee Creek Montana has a straight tail c150 in the amateur built class. He has 172 wings and a Chevy 350 in it. He was looking for fat tires on a budget. I told him to go talk to the sprint car guys and he ended up with a complete used system. He said the whole system cost him $500 and he got wheels/tires/hubs/brakes etc. He said it was real easy to retrofit.

I've heard of the Schneider slicks before, but never seen them. What wheels are used-- GarAero 10" adapters?

Re: Schneider Racing Slicks on C180

First bushwheels that were commercially available I think?
I have a set, they are 15" aluminum wheels with a hub the has been built to fit the aircraft axle, 5 bolt ford pattern.
Lot of 206's used them, They are still around you see them on Alaskalist occationally. The tires were cut B&H racing slicks.
Spoke to him a few years ago, STC's still available, He would sell it if someone was interested.

Re: Schneider Racing Slicks on C180

Obviously AK Bushwheels are the more elegant solution but these Slicks are pretty cool looking. I'd have to get Hoosier slicks and put the lettering out[emoji41]

Another thought would be similar adapters to fit ATV wheels. Buy some 10" wheels with bead-lockers and run the 31" dessers tubeless.
