School Aviation Club - Takes Flight

I have made some previous posts documenting how I have incorporated aviation in my middle school math class. My school wants me to develop this even more. The first step in developing it even more is holding a summer aviation program... building models, flight simulators, STEM education through the Fly to Learn curriculum, and flying RC airplanes...

Here is a wordpress blog/website, I created to document all of this: http://sjvaaviationclub.wordpress.com/

I created a resource and video page.... If anyone has good videos/resources (school appropriate) that I should link to please let me know.... I know there are a lot of good videos already on this site that I will probably link to but just wanted to open it up to all types of flying.

That's awesome. Flight got me interested in biology (birds) and math as a kid, and got me to spend all my lawn mowing cash on models and r/c planes.

Contact Beechcraft. Years ago they had a really good free program for teaching aviation in the schools. Probably no longer available, but...

Good for you for doing this!

Mark Baker, president of AOPA spoke on Saturday at an aviation expo here in Colorado. He specifically mentioned that the AOPA is putting together a program to bring together many schools (he mentioned they had a list of 80) with aviation STEM curriculum. He said there were many schools doing things like this and that none of them knew of each other.

pilot training with IFR is part of the curriculum at a boarding academy in TN. Last I heard they were building their own strip.

Re: School Aviation Club - Takes Flight

RC airplanes is what got me started... Building and flying them with my grandpa...

So my school basically said if I can have this fully developed what would have it look like.... basically dream big.

First, I'm going to put together a more realistic fly simulator like this.... http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JkpOw6kmtTw

Next, I would like to see about making some deals with the local flight school at Hemet-Ryan about flight instruction for student that are interested. I'm working on getting my ground instructor certificate to clear students for the written.... I would like to get my CFI but $$$$ in getting the IR, Com, and CFI....

I've also thought about a build-a-plane project but there is a lot that goes into that.... Maybe hook up with an EAA group

I plan to continue to give Young Eagle Flights.

We have taken a field trip to the CDF Air Attack Fire Base, and other local pilots aircraft.

Any thoughts or ideas that you all can think of?
