Re: Seabird seeker

I took a few photos at Sun/Fun last year. Like the old Optica design, (which I think just needed better funding and marketing) it's a great platform for low observation missions. Like most new airplanes, it's cost prohibitive compared to the used airplane market.

They are marketing it as a competitor to municipalities and state government use instead of a Helicopter. Due to the lower investment and much lower hourly cost it makes sense to promote it this way. In some ways it is promoting to the same sector as a few of the gyrocopter companies, which surprises me, but yet they seem to be fairly successful with police departments using gyrocopters as observation and reconnaissance use.

Re: Seabird seeker

May be ok at sea level but based on comments of pilots that have flown them at altitude (5,000') very underpowered and not recommended and not impressed.

Re: Seabird seeker

They do look cool. But the great handling at slow speeds, when the it's stalling at 60 knots... to me that's not very slow...

I've had a bit to do with these since early 90's and unfortunately quite true...

Re: Seabird seeker

River rat, maybe that is right. I just watched the video and was watching the airspeed indicator as they were stalling it. I never actually looked at tue specs though.
