Seaplane training
Information and discussion about seaplanes, float planes, and water operations.
Frankly, I love Browns. Stop there for fuel a lot and like the folks.
I got my seaplane rating at Flagler with Tripp Wacker and would do it again.
But the most fun and most practical seaplane instructor I have ever flown with was Brian at Adventure Seaplanes. Back then he was on Lake Lowery - which I still recommend for overnight stays. Look up Oak Harbor RV. Now he is at the Cherry Pocket and the neatest float flying area in Florida.
Hey Brian, today I went to the Sunset Grill in Sebring for lunch. My passenger said he had never been in an airboat. Next time we go to Cypress Lake --OR DO WE COME TO CHERRY POCKET?
Thanks for all the great spots to fly and eat in Central Florida.

Thanks for the kind words Gary, we should be at the Cherry Pocket next week and we have 2 airboats there, we also haul them to Camp Mack or Port Hatchineha and ride the Kissimmee chain and Cypress for great fun. I may even bring my Bushwheel tire Super Cub down this season for a little outback training fun!
As for float training and SES ratings, there are several places to train with but warning-there are drawbacks of doing a quickie 1 day or 2 day rating and getting 3-5 hours flight time, you usually get what you paid for, just a ticket with very little seaplane experience! Some pilots shop for low price only and usually get a low quality product in return and i see this in low price SES packages also! If a person plans on flying or buying a floatplane after the rating, my advice is to get a experienced instructor and get the rating in a somewhat similar type plane, not a J3 or a Champ if your going to fly a Cessna or a Maule. The seaplanepilot.org website has a list of all the flight schools in US and Canada, the type of planes they train in and costs.

I did my Commercial SES with Rich Hensch in Altamonte Springs, FL. Close to Disney and tons of rivers and lakes to splash. Florida Seaplanes uses Maule M7-Super Rockets for SES and a G44A Grumman Widgeon for their MES. Rich is a retired Naval aviator with many years of float plane experience. Here is his link
