Searching for Axle Blank For Cleveland Wheels & Brake

Hi,
I'm looking to get my hands on some 1.5" diameter axle blanks that will fit a Cleveland 6" wheel (40-75D) with a flange for bolting on cleveland brakes (30-52N) brake torque plate.

Anyone know of a shop that makes axle blanks like this? Or am I on my own to machine?

I bought some steel bolt-on axles for a Cessna from Airframes Alaska years ago. Not cheap, as you're paying for all the paperwork behind it but it was a nice part.

I should clarify that I'll need weld-on axles. I'm also not too worried about paperwork as I will need to get the whole trailing link inspected as a owner supplied part under

Item 4/5:

. Owner/Operator Produced Part. Parts that were produced by an owner/operator for
installation on their own aircraft (i.e., by a certificated air carrier). An owner/operator is
considered a producer of a part, if the owner participated in controlling the design, manufacture,
or quality of the part. Participating in the design of the part can include supervising the
manufacture of the part or providing the manufacturer with the following: the design data, the
materials with which to make the part, the fabrication processes, assembly methods, or the
quality control (QC) procedures.

I'd still call Airframes Alaska.....this is the kind of stuff they do routinely. Second choice would be Atlee Dodge Inc. in Anchorage. Talk to Steve there.

Both Airframes and Atlee Dodge make gear. They may sell you an axle component by itself.

Also not a difficult part to machine yourself. Looking at the axles on my Bearhawk gear, the threading is the most difficult part and that's not too bad on a lathe with some kind of threading automation. A grizzled machinist could do it in his sleep.

MTV,
That's a good idea. I'll plan to call Airframes or Atlee Dodge today

Duke,
I haven't I'll give. TLGW a try too.

Zzz,
I totally agree that the process is not too hard to make. But selecting the metal and getting the right hardness/temper isn't something I want to trial and error with.

I have also have word that Sealand out of Canada might hold a canadian STC that can be turned into a Field Approval for this mod too. Waiting to hear back from them.

Re: Searching for Axle Blank For Cleveland Wheels & Brake

Duke, Looks like TLGW is my best bet for someone making the axles.

Airframes Alaska is backlogged and not accepting new work. Atlee Dodge doesn't make axles in house.

I found the canadian LSTC for the used for this conversion in Canada. It's for the 104M not 104MA Wilga but very close. I'm hoping to use this as a basis for my Field Approval Form 337.

Anyone know if the drawings and letters listed in this document are publically accessible through Transport Canada DoT?

Can you get drawings of what needs to be made? I know a qualified machine shop interested and with capacity. I am sure they are not interested in designing it. A set of prints takes all the quests work out.

Re: Searching for Axle Blank For Cleveland Wheels & Brake

Sealane is an awesome company. I expect they’d help you out with drawings and parts. Pay for the drawings first, get your field mod approval before you buy the axles? They could probably work with you.

The aircraft assigned the LSTC isn’t listed on the Canadian registration database anymore. You could possibly search the serial number on the FAA site and track down the owner for paperwork if it’s active in USA.

Could it be the aircraft that just sold out of Telegraph Creek who’s seller is now looking for a 185 on this thread? Disregard. That was C-GELX.
