Since the Katmai is a Tri-cycle gear aircraft, there would be no need to "raise the tail" for take-off...hence no downward force on the canard.

Valdez is a great weekend for family and friends!!! But we fly with a headwind, usually a big one!!! Wind will make up for weight and pilot skill. Find a hot place with no wind and you will know what a plane will do!!! You usually find a humble pilot standing next to it!!!
