While it is indeed a remote place, MOT gets around. I have run into MOT in the weirdest places. When it comes to rules, MOT can scorch the earth, where the FAA only lightly warms it. Then again, they can be very blasé about things. On the gruesome side, I was operating a Canadian registered DHC-5E, C-DOG. A sudanese gent was running away with a jerry can from the mound of stuff we where unloading in a small strip in Sudan, Pachalla. Well we always kept one turning on the ground in the remote strips, as the APU was soooo reliable. Well the unfortunate thief ran through the prop arc, reliving him of his head. The Sudanese police on the spot where not concerned, he was a thief and deserved it, Allah's will and all that. So mildly concerned, I got on the sat phone to MOT when I got back to Loki to see what mound of forms I needed to fill out.

Well, MOT goes; Sudanese not concerned? So we are not concerned. Just get all the blood off the airplane, it is really corrosive, -click-.

Ask yourself if you're really gonna remove it after 6 months. The ability to know how much fuel is on board; to the tenth of a gallon, comes in handy more than not.

My vote is to save your loonies, and find a unit you'll be happy with in the long run. Better yet, go for the entire package and find an engine analyzer with fuel flow option; JPI-700 or UBG-16.

OK, I won't buy this thingie then. If it ain't gonna be easy I don't want it, it was just a brainfart to get a good idea of my fuel burn, but I can do that with gas cans too. Thanks for all the input.

As for the federallies up here, true they never had much time/inclination to check us boonie pilots but now they're training the RCMP to do ramp checks, as well as other hassle factor thingies to other types of licencees (boats, rv's, etc. Can you imagine a cop doing a ramp check??
