Something went wrong in the air and the pilot made an emergency landing in a grass strip at the Scappoose Airport just before 7 p.m.
Authorities said the two people on board were injured and transported to local hospitals by ambulance. The pilot was described as a 50-year-old man from Texas and his passenger was a 41-year-old local man.
The plane is owned by a company called Sherpa and was originally built in 1992 as an experimental plane. Authorities said it has been flown for 1400 hours and one of the occupants was also a Sherpa employee.
The Federal Aviation Administration will lead the investigation.
