Shipping a plane to nz?

Does anyone have experience shipping a plane overseas? Some kiwis (new zealanders) are looking at buying my 182. Any recommendation on someone on the west coast that would do a good job in removing the wings and putting it into a cargo container?

A visit to the fsdo for paperwork I am sure

Thanks
Travis

Re: Shipping a pane to nz?

Contact Jeremy Ainsworth, on the Maule pilots forum or here on BCP. I think he has taken a number of planes down under.

Re: Shipping a pane to nz?

Performance Air at Caldwell (KEUL) has shipped planes over sea's before (Australia).

Give Shaun Tubbs a call at (208) 455-7400. He and his crew will do a superb job and take real good care of the plane.

Here is Performance Air Inc Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Performance-Air-Inc/394089157308886?ref=ts&fref=ts BTW........ He might have some hats, T-shirts and sweaters for sale, too :D

Re: Shipping a pane to nz?

Thanks! I will share this info with the potential buyer. I find myself in NZ every couple of years so maybe I will get visitation rights to 2551G if it goes to the South Island.

Re: Shipping a pane to nz?

do not under any circumstances ship the plane with a fire extinguisher in it.... They'll send the plane back... we sent a PA 20 over a number of years ago and it was hell cause there was a fire extinguisher in it.. don't know why it was such a big deal but the kiwi's wanted to send the entire thing back for removal... believe me. I forget how we got it resolved but it was a nightmare...

Re: Shipping a pane to nz?

Yeah our customs guys are pretty hardcore.

We used Jenners Worldwide Freight Ltd. (NZ) to bring two Bearhawk's into NZ, and we chose them because the have lots of experience with shipping aircraft internationally over the years, which the insurance companies like and made it cheaper to insure.

I can't recommend their service highly enough, Ian Jenners took care of everything personally, and they have their own facilities here in Auckland which made customs clearance more straighforward and safer for the plane (being unloaded in the right kind of facility). They have partners in the States in ports like Houston and LA, which gave us plenty of options.

Good to know. Not sure how much the buyer knows about importing, but seems to be doing their research. I will recommend him to check out Jenners.

I thought you had a typo in the thread title. I hoped you wanted to ship a pain to New Zealand! I've got a couple of grown children I'm thinking of sending someplace......

Re: Shipping a plane to nz?

Just a thought. I've seen plenty of container trailers rollin up and down our highways. Some of those containers didn't look to be in the best of shape (mostly the doors/door seals). Maybe the older/crappier containers are being used domestically only? I dunno. If your able to, make sure you get a nice tight container with a good seal (if your able to).

My hanger neighbor shipped a Stinson to NZ and imported his Cherokee 180 from NZ... His wife is from there so he has a lot of contacts and knows how to do it.

PM me and I can probably get you in touch with him.

I have no idea about shipping a plane anywhere, but I had to say that I really enjoy your username. My last singlespeed was a 26-er, but a 29-er is in the short range plans.

The cool kids are all riding 650b at 27.5"! ;-)

29Singlespeed - is the buy progressing?

Not sure if you are interested - but we'll be down in Tucson for the 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo in February 19 weekend. If you can, we should try and meet up.

We will be down there on the Pivot bike corporate team, since Lisa works for pivot.

Still talking with my friends from the Picton, NZ area. I hope it works out .. I have spent a lot of time down there.

Plane is getting a polish next week. Maybe I will find the time to go fly it this week.. been way to busy -- hence why it's for sale. It's being ignored.
