My strip is 300ft, one way. Trees on both ends... Elevation 700 msl. If you want to see it order a copy of my Idaho Backcountry video. ':lol:'

My standard answer is I'd rather buy gas. But, I'm curious how you make the approach? Slip? Nose high with power? Flap dump? How high are the trees on the approach end?

The fog lifted and I flew to Lebanon and filled up my plane. With 3 hours on the Hobbs, it took 13.7 gallons and $54 to fill. There went the video. :lol:

Full flaps, as slow as I can fly it and still see what is in front of me (not totally straight in approach, little turn). Strip is 50 ft wide +-10 ft., Have to be under the first Doug Fir tree for touch down. I am probably giving up 70-80 ft of altitude in 500 ft to make my touch down spot. Oh yeah, you don't want to hook your tailwheel on the high voltage BPA power lines! My strip is not landable 100% of the time, you have to pick your days so it is not what I would call ideal.

It's to bad you don't have an extra $16.95, but I understand it is tough times. :lol:

That one you have a picture of in your gallery is easy compared to mine!

None of us here can hold a candle to you Greg... Your videos ar amazing.. and I wish I could handle my Maule half as good as you do yours, but then mine is not modified as yours is...which I am also envious of.... :D

Thanks for the compliment, I will say that I really have no special skill that a lot of practice in the off airport enviroment will not get most pilots. You also have to be willing to bend some metal along the way, I don't seek that out but if you are trying to get better at something that does not come natural it is a simple fact that you will fail sometimes. You are correct in saying the right equipment is a big help! :D

well it's the bend the equipment part that most of us can't handle... Not being a A&P and not being able to fix stuff myself I err on the conservative side of flying and just figure sand bars and water to land transition landings are best left to those who can fix stuff better than me. Dewey moore might be in my future but I gotta get a few more landings under my belt in this Maule before I tackle it... I've only had the damn thing two years and I've ground looped once landing with a quartering tail wind...That was expensive although insurance covered it but I was grounded for half a year.. I wouldn't do Mile high cause there's no fish there. Fly fishing's my reason for Idaho and the flying makes it more enjoyable going into those remote strips... Butch :P

I can relate to that. Also, screw ups can be hazardous to your health. Ask Hanger Trash about the time I crashed my dirtbike and got 16 stitches in the last inch of my little finger. With a plane, the potential for much worse keeps me flying pretty conservatively.

I call this one "Tune-Up", it's about 370' and the elev. is 5730... Keeps me "tuned-up" for hanging out with guys like joecub...... It's sure not the world's shortest, but it's about as short as I can get into at this elev., with no wind, and it's only about a mile or so from the airport.

The guy that builds Just Aircraft has a new place he is landing but I haven't got a pic yet....20% 200' hill top in Wallhalla SC. Using a Highlander of course. :wink:

... and, those that pound their guns into plows, will plow for those who don't.

There used to be a strip on Rumble Creek near Tanacross in AK that we'd take hunters and game in and out of. It was one way, 350ft rocks and gravel at 2800msl.
Another on the Hulahula River in the Brooks at 3300msl was 380ft though it had a go around if you had the power.
I used a Maule M5-235 in those days. 24"tyres and 45deg flaps.
These were accepted strips. Of course there are many landing sites unmarked, much shorter as Greg and Loni's videos show.
