Re: Shortfield 737s

What a wuss..that's probably the funniest thing they get to do. I fly on big airplanes internationally for a living and to be honest it's boring as hell most of the time watching the fms fly us around and the gas burn off for hours and hours. If it wasn't for the "interesting" places I'd go nuts I think.

Awesome videos...was anyone else yelling Right Rudder Right Rudder in that first one? [-o<

Interesting! My buddy John who fly's a Global Express all over the world says the same exact thing!

Back when he flew a 604 all over for another company, if it weren't for flying to some of the most awesome places on earth and staying at the same hotels as the big boss, bringing their own golf clubs and the company paying for all their golf rounds, wide open meal expense, and many other perks, he would have gone A wall, too!!

Dang....I wish I knew I wanted to be a commercial or corporate pilot back in high school!!

Re: Shortfield 737s

I always enjoyed, and learned a lot, from jumpseating with the Wein crews, and then the Alaska based AS crews in the 737's. Lots of hand-flying yanking and banking, and approaches that would really make you sit up and pay attention...

Those guys know how to fly.

Re: Shortfield 737s

I guess the approach procedure is:
1) Aim straight at the mountains until you can see the screaming people running away.
2) Steep turn to the left towards the other mountains - do NOT exceed 50ft AGL
3) Listen for the sound of shantytown antennas brusing on the fuselage. If you don't hear those then you're too high.
4) Aim for a touchdown at about the gap in the airport fence.
5) If the gear doesn't collapse then apply brakes - including the parking brake. Lock those wheels!
6) When the aircraft comes to a stop wait for the tow truck to pull you back to the asphalt.

Re: Shortfield 737s

The pilot in the first video must fly into Wilson bar often.

BTW.. It is/was a 757, not a 737.

Re: Shortfield 737s

Gotta love cross wind gear!

I remember the first time I saw a C-5A land sideways. I was reaching for my camera to take a picture of the crash....touched down then plane lined up w/ centerline.....weird.

Here is a real short Take off with a 737 in Hope BC.
I wish there was some video of this testing of the 737.
