I think I've seen that panel for sale recently, even includes the plane! Are you planning to replace the Citabria?

Yeah I'm trying to sell or trade for a C180 or pre-61 C182. Need something a little bigger.

Re: Show us your Panel !

Here's what my C-180 panel looked like before my 4 month interior rejuvenation......

And here is the result. A good VFR panel with some gyros just in case...

Re: Show us your Panel !

Hey guys,

Well after about 6 months in the shop first with the avionics guy, then doing an annual which consisted of cleaning up the panel and installing a few gizmos here i am! And i'm very happy with the results

Image

Just leveling out after a brief climb to 1400 feet

Image

The overlay is by pfluegers in Redding California. Carbon fiber, backlit with engraved placards

Image

The night lighting is very nice, this Iphone picture does it no justice...the elecroluminescent lighting doesnt work so they worked that into the overlay so it shows up really nice on the switch panel.

Re: Show us your Panel !

A guy at my airport built (over many years) a Lancair 4P, with all the latest super-duper whizbang shit. He came by my hangar & checked out my 1953 C180 yesterday, right after I got back from a short local flight. He looked in and eyeballed the panel, and made some sort of semi-snide remark about it. I told him "yup, all old school analog-- you won't find any of that digital junk in there" which shut him up pretty good.

Re: Show us your Panel !

Bart,

Your panel looks great! Are your sub panels carbon fiber or are they metal with some kind of wrap on them. If they are CF, what thickness did you use and did you spray them with clear or anything else for UV? I am considering doing a similar setup for a sub panel on my plane.

Thanks,
Joe

That looks great, very clean. What are you using to cover the hump with your flaps and trim? Is that the Selkirk one?

The "hook" is merely an aluminum threaded stand-off screwed to one of the windshield trim screws. It's about an inch long. Then I threaded another #10 stainless pan head screw to the opposite side to give it a little lip for the headset to catch on. Nuttin' fancy but it works. Doing the same on the pax side probably wouldn't work if you had the headset hanging there in flight...not enough of a hook...it would probably fall off. I'll get a pic of it tomorrow to clarify...

The sub-panels are aluminum with a carbon fiber look-a-like wrap on it. I've used it before with good results...somewhere in this thread is a pic of a Supercub panel I covered with the same stuff. It's called "Di-Noc" 3M makes it, and it's easily found on eBay. Can't really attest to the longevity yet, but it's something I can easily do over, or do differently if needed. Bit of a learning curve using it, and can be used on compound curves with a little heat, but fairly straightforward on a flat panel.

Yep. And I really like it.

Thanks for all the compliments guys!

Is that the real deal or a mock-up? If I was you, I'd leave the panel til the very last minute. Depending on how long it takes, today's cutting edge stuff may be old hat and several gen's behind by the time you get her flying.

I wonder what kind of awesome printer paper will be available by the time I'm ready to commit to avionics?

No huge changes-- just shuffled a few instruments around, moved the com radio, and removed a couple inop instruments and the old-fangled panel-mount GPS.
