Siletz Bay Oregon ( ident S45 ) trip

Siletz Bay Oregon ( ident S45 ) trip report.

If you happen to land here you will find a rain shelter, and a Port-a-pot and two picnic tables.
About 15 hangars are located there. No FBO or fuel.

A short 4 minute walk will take you across Hwy 101, ( Careful !! Traffic can be heavy. ) then walk South just about 30 feet toward the “Do Not Pass” sign. There you will find a small, slightly over grown trail going up the embankment. Head up the hill 20 ft to the top.

Another 50 ft and you will be at US Post Office 97388, Gleneden Beach Oregon. That’s where you will find a nice little place to eat called

Side Door Café.
6675 Gleneden Beach Loop rd.

I suggest you call first, to make sure they are open. Good food, very clean. Nice place, great service. I'd give it an A++ and 4.99 out of 5 stars.
Then we headed back to the airport. It took me a few seconds to find the trail leading back down to Hwy 101. ( No I didn't have a beer at lunch ). Look for the power pole to find it. And of course, we pilots are always looking for a place that we can fly to, walk to, and then eat at.

Nice little coastal airport, plenty of ramp space, clean approach in and out.
I’ll be sure to stop by again. I was told that I could have walked down the road to the South, turn right and walk past the Fire Dept to the beach in another 5 mins walking. I'll try that next time for sure.

Hey 8GCBC !!! Good on ya!
Yes, I had seen that you made a very nice video on going up to Siletz Bay Oregon. I hadn't been in there in many years. I had a good time and I plan on heading back, now that I know that I only have a short walk to the beach. Yeah,...I know I can walk to the beach at Pacific City also, but now I have another.

Can anyone reply here that knows if Salishan Lodge still will send the van to the airport to pick you up for lunch? Back in the early 1990's they would actually listen to the radio and you could call them for a ride.

An update from a fellow pilot would be helpful. Thanks.

Re: Siletz Bay Oregon ( ident S45 ) trip

Had a full engine failure and landed there on a night cross country about 5 years ago, one of the hangar owners put my plane up for repairs and even helped fly me to the major airport to get back home. Got some very great and very, well, not great memories there.

You survived a "Dead stick" into Siletz at night? You must have some good Karma!!

Not many alternate landing options on the Coast of Oregon!

I won't argue there.

Almost landed near the beach where there was a light shining out onto the sand, luckily we picked up the airport lights soon enough and I didn't opt for the beach. After getting the plane down and secure we were met by a fire department guy who drove to the airport after someone reported hearing a ruff running plane, told us that they have a hard time on that beach even with their trucks.

Nice place though, did meet a few nice folks though, fellow named TJ was nice enough to let me keep my plane in his hangar and even flew me back up north, found a franklin mechanic named Nolan, actually I think I might have even gotten the referral for Nolan from this site, or the Stinson yahoo group, forget which, this was back in 09'

Absolutely totally amazing! That will never be forgotten. I will tell the guys at Newport during the next lunch!

I'll think of you the next time I fly by Siletz going to Pacific City!!! You are blessed.

Re: Siletz Bay Oregon ( ident S45 ) trip

Cool spot. Great Restaurant. First time I ever saw moisture vortices off the prop. Scared the hell out of me. Thought I had lost a seal in the prop and was dumping all the oil out of the engine. Chopped the power, noticed the other one was doing' it too, figured I probably had not lost both prop seals, immediately figured it out, had a good laugh. Salt air it aint thin...
