Help me solve a mystery.

Searching for legal waterways (and maybe even looking for waterfront properties) in Oregon, I came across Siltcoos Lake on the central coast. This lake is not mentioned in the Seaplane Pilot's Association Water Landing Directory as an open or closed body of water.

With that said, Siltcoos Seaplane Base was mentioned on the Siltcoos Lake Wikipedia page, and even had it's own Wiki page:

According to that wiki, it even has a FAA Airport designator: 5J2
The Siltcoos Seaplane Base can be noted on Google Maps.

The Siltcoos Seaplane base is not in the AFD, and not on VFR charts.

So, I have two questions:
Why is this? Defunct\decommissioned? New\in process of designation? Private\restricted?
Does anyone know anything about Siltcoos that they can share with me?

It is on the October 4, 2001 Klamath Falls Sectional. Thats the newest one I have.

I can't find it right now, but there's an Oregon Marine Board document that lists lakes that are off limits for aircraft, among other restrictions.

Maybe someone has better Google-fu than me.

Many years ago...

Several times, in the amphib, I waited out weather at Florence’s FBO. And there was a guy who owned Sea-lion Caves and also owned one of the seaplane bases. It was a nice dock in front of his large home. He does not own a seaplane anymore. But, invited me over several times many years ago. I can’t remember his name. The last few years I have not seen him at Florence airport. He really admired my Scout however.

You may want to call Florence FBO and ask about the “Seal Lion Caves” guy and call him, if available, about the lakes and bases. Call ODT Aviation, usually they are pretty knowledgeable about access and who to contact.

Just the sort of information I was curious about, thanks for the reply.

I'm not really concerned if Siltcoos is open to us as a legal waterway....I'm fairly confident is it...and...I might have even splashed in there once last year. I've also seen photos of water operations in the past there. I was just unfamiliar of the seaplane base. It's a shame the base no longer officially exists.
