Skewed ball
Have problems with your aircraft? Maybe just questions about how best to tune or adjust something? Regs or maintenance? Need to know the best way to do something?

An aircraft in unaccelerated flight needs a little right pedal to counteract engine torque of course. If you reduce the engine torque you will need less right pedal. Are you sure this isn't because either the speed is increased for the same power setting in a descent or the power is reduced without a corresponding power reduction? Either will result in less right pedal being required, which is the same thing as left pedal of course.
What you describe is normal, unless of course it's a lot more pedal required than normal. The faster you dive an airplane for example, the more left pedal required to keep it in trim.

I agree. In a powered climb you need right rudder, it sorta follows that in a gliding desscent you'd need left rudder.
Chris, when I saw the title of this thread, I thought perhaps you'd hurt yourself loading up that hotrod 170

What you guys said. I assumed that vertical stabilizer is permanently "rigged" to offset P effect at cruise speeds with the rudder neutral. So, when airspeed increases beyond typical cruise speed, the additional speed increases the yaw force built into the vertical stab, causing the ball to slip left unless you apply rudder to counteract it. This theory goes out the window if what you're observing happens at cruise or lower airspeeds.

For a Poor Man's rudder trim, just kick the rudder right or left to cock the tailwheel a bit into the airstream. Centers the ball and makes all well in the world.

Befor I woried about this I would be sure tht your plane is rigged correctly.
Had out plane rigged and it made a big diferance. What was out the most was that the ball was out of level to begin with. Got the plane perfectly level on the ground by messing with tire preasures that centered the ball. The plane was about a 1/4 buble off plumb. Been personally accused of that myself.

So that's why that works, I had noticed that the rudder would seem to stick a little if kicked, now I know why.
