Skookumchuck Hot Springs

Just before Christmas I made a couple of runs up to Skookumchuck Hotsprings to pick up a couple of motorized mountain bikes that I bought from Robin. It is a tight little one way strip(as verified by Karmutzen) and it was all hands on deck going in and coming out in the 172. Some of the old guys told me it was pretty spooky going in over the stumps on the approach when they were in there. When I got back I told them the stumps were no problem, it was the 50 ft trees that grew up between the stumps that made it much more challenging. I added some pictures to my photo album.

The pictures in 175 magnum's photo album shows them unassembled in their crates, plus a look at the strip and stumps, and how he loaded them into his 172. Maybe he has the bikes assembled by now and can post a riding picture..

That looks like a cool strip and a cool bike. What kind of bike is that?

Re: Skookumchuck Hot Springs

They are based on a French kids trials bike. Built by Happy Times Motor company and not one tight bolt on the whole thing. Once I got through that they turned out to be good little bikes. The motor package is a 90cc copy of the old Honda step throughs and they have the same 4 speed semi-auto transmission. The reason I got them is they weigh 80lbs each and 2 of them will fit in my 175 with being broken down, the OMNI VISION on the 172 doesn't work as well for that. The idea is to fly to some of our remote strips and check out the area with these things. I will get some pictures of the finished units this weekend.

Is this bike still produced? Is there a website for it?

Re: Skookumchuck Hot Springs

175 magnum I want you to know this thread drift is your fault. :D I went looking for the "Happy Time" bike and somehow I ended up here. I want one of these and I'm not sure why. Could be the crossbow, could be all the knives, or maybe the shovel, or is it the climbing rope, or perhaps the karabiners, or maybe the hatchet. Will it fit in the 185?

Re: Skookumchuck Hot Springs

I've been checking those out also, great minds think alike! One of my ski area buddies is a rabid mountain biker AND a rabid dirt biker, when I asked him what he thought of this new mix between the two, he shrugged and said something along the lines of " when I want to ride with an engine I have 3 motorcycles, when I want to pedal I use the bike". I like the fact you can transport them on a (good) bike rack, they are that light.

And then there are these: https://www.electricbike.com/ Some real cool electric mountain bikes out there also. I'm lucky to be able to pack the Montague in my small plane, but one of those other types look like what I need for throwing in the crane for getting around on in town. But I use the Montague for that also.....but man they look like fun.

Re: Skookumchuck Hot Springs

I don't believe they are made anymore but you would have to get a hold of Robin and find out what the status is. Ask him about the motorized mountain bikes Ken got.

That motoped looks way cool and more heavy duty but it is also weighs 50lbs more.
I also have the Montague bike and it works great but we have lots of old logging roads that start at the heads of inlets and big lakes with no access roads. You access them by boat or air only and then they go back anywhere from 20 to 50 miles. That is where I think this little bike will work well.
