Sky Tec starter noise

I put a Sky Tec lightweight starter on the O470.
It turns over ok, but makes a bad growling sound.
Is that normal for this starter?

Re: Sky Tec starter noise

When I bought mine, I heard that was pretty common. Mine doesn't, and I feel lucky. Been on there 4-5 yrs, been trouble free.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Mine doesn't sound anything like the old Delco, when my engine builder heard it he exclaimed "whata you doing to my starter adapter". In which I replied "it's my starter adapter". I'm used to it now and working fine.

Re: Sky Tec starter noise

You might check that the mounting is correct. If it doesn't engage the ring gear properly it could make noise.
