They’re everywhere..

Thank you "sbmaule".

I didn't know about that website. It needs to be integrated into aviation preflighting. Safety Courses should definitely introduce that type of information!

Also, FAA Helicopter Handbooks should review these hazardous practices.

Frankly, I never thought too much about slackline until now?

Good info!! I also never even considered them. Great suggestion on the link listing the locations. Nothing near me that is a concern, but I have been to areas where there seem to be quite a few.

Crazy that people just leave those things up . A kilometer long ? Dang . Wonder what kind of trouble these folks are facing after this. (If any )Such a horrifying turn of events.

They had a active NOTAM posted with the location not much else they could do. I don't use any of the subscription flight planning but this is a case where it might save someone if it the NOTAM pops up as you enter the area.

Re: Slackline kills (4) In AZ helicopter

Just what is a "recreational slackline"?
Are they for zip-lining?

Another thing to watch out for in timber country is high-lead aka tower logging.
I've seen cables strung across canyons from ridge to ridge, with no balls or anything else to mark them.
They can appear (and disappear) overnight,
and I'm sure it never occurs to the loggers to file any kind of notam or whatever.

Re: Slackline kills (4) In AZ helicopter

Is this the slackline that damaged the aircraft?

Note: 600’ AGL is really high! Holy…

The slackline referenced in this incident, does not appear to show up on the slackmap site. Nothing shown to the south of Superior. It does show an area to the east, but very short and low.

Looks like they updated the notam on the day of the incident as well.

Notam says flagged and lighted. Juan Brown's video on it makes it sure look like that wasn't the case.

Sketchy, I did a lot of flying in Arizona last winter at low level, thought never crossed my mind that there could be wires between points of earth.

My opinion: If it was depicted on slackline.com, then someone deleted it really quick! I see the “short and low” slackline however in the area too.

Been flying in and around AZ low level for few years and never thought a slackline would be 600’ AGL. My first hand experience with these slackers was in the campgrounds around Yosemite.

They updated the notam on the afternoon of the incident - removed “lighted” and lowered the elevation to 400’ agl
