Has anyone ever competed in a round robin rally type of event?

I now have 22 different runways on my farm. On my real strip, I painted a white line for a spot landing contest next week.

Tonight I started the timer and took off, then landed at a new strip, stopped and turned around and took off the opposite direction. I did that at seven different strips and was back at the starting point in 7 minutes, 43 seconds. I messed up a few things too, so that time will get shorter.

What do you think about something like this? I don’t know if that opens up chances for more then the shortest landing planes or not? I wanted something so that more airplanes could compete, but not sure this is it.

Do you have to come to a complete stop and count 1 Missisippi, or what? Can you depart any direction, or do you have to depart the direction you came from? (for example Jump n Duck)

Funny you ask this Patrol Guy-

While we were are the Air races in Reno we discussed something just like this. A pattern course for time with 6 or 8 landings to include a spot landing a short landing, a three point short, and wheel landing short, a landing with a direction turn to spot stop,all counting for total points.

Fast guys will make points and slow guys will make points. Just thinking out loud here but I am certain we could come up with a whole bunch of other ideas for it.

I think its an outstanding idea and something that could possibly take off!

That is an excellent concept for a very challenging contest. Reminds me of the extreme states of a biathlon. In one mode your in an absolute rush to make your next goal, once reached concentration and steady states of calm are required to place the rifle rounds on target. I could see a lot of people getting flustered on this one, rushing to take off quickly, getting into a tight pattern for the next prescribed landing configuration only to find out the approach is too fast. A game that would soon separate the men from the boys. I would unfortunately soon end up an infant. Perhaps to make time the basis of fair judgement, a correction factor based on an algebraical computation of stall speed could help equalize the performance discrepancies of different aircraft.

Good idea, wish I could make it. But, here is the skeptic in me, wouldn't taking off and landing opposite direction be a little tough with 32 airplanes in the pattern?

There would be only one plane at a time in the air, but It could drag on too long if there were more then 10-12 contestants.

I've made 3 landings in 6 seconds before. I did it once during a flight review just to impress an instructor, they don't understand the game .

2 touch and go's and 1 complete stop in 6 sec.......... .....I didn't think anyone else knew how to do that but me....

... well tonight Greg showed up and did the course in 5 point something minutes.......... but he was DQ'd because the landed the starting strip the same direction he took off! Actually, it takes a little thinking to plan your route.

If you count bounces as landings, I may hold the record.
Maybe you should devise a competition for number of bounces. That may be just as interesting.

I wish it was a little closer to home because it sure sounds and looks like a lot of fun to me!
