Flying is dangerous. If you think otherwise, you are new at this sport. Mind the gravity not the gap.

Yeah, the sound distortion due to wind is calibrated to wind speed. I thought it was pretty ingenious.

It sounds better in theory than it actually works. The plug-in anemometer veins is a much cooler concept.
I've carried a Kestrel 2000 for a few years, but mostly use it for windage adjustments to my scope.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
I just use the sound of the wind whistling through my ears. If I'm dumb enough to go fly when it's blowing real hard, there's no brain in the way to stop the wind, and the whistle is loud.
And, the whistle helps block the noise of the people telling me not to do it.

Agreed Gump. I have never been in a situation where wind estimates were not sufficient for planning my takeoff. It is fun to have numbers if it just means a simple addition to what I'm already carrying though.
Does anyone have a rule about wind speed vs slope for takeoff? for instance: " if there is a 3% grade, it will take a 15 knot wind to convince me to take off up hill?" I have taken off down hills with 8-10 knot tailwinds on several occasions. That is frequently the scenario at McKenzie Bridge.

Cougar Resevoir, downstream, near McKenzie Bridge (00S), has typically a one way departure path over the dam. Mornings, the cold air is sinking down the canyons and in the afternoons the vast Oregon East Desert is sucking cold marine air inland. At least this is what I saw the few times with the seaplane.
Same scenario, for me, at McKenzie Bridge with bush wheels.

I remember Cougar Reservoir back in early 70's with hot springs -lets get naked ! . In Oregon where logging trucks rule the highways I had little Dautsun Pick up with several young ladies in the back "flashing " the truck drivers that followed behind . Had a great time swimming and doing the horizontal bop. East of Eugene about 30-40 miles .
