SNY EAA Young Eagle Flights

11/7/09 Flying Girl Scouts as Young Eales Time (approx) 09:00-16:00 SNY (Sidney Municipal Airport)
As per James Gill, EAA chapter 608 member:

Have a request from the Girl Scouts (aka my wife) to see if our EAA Club would be interested in doing Young Eagle Flights Nov 7th (Weather Permitting) at the Sidney Airport.

They have a group of 40 – 60 4th and 5th grade girls working on their Aerospace badges. They have various events planned at WNCC: Paper Airplane races, Balsa airplanes, Film Canister Rockets, tour the Aviation department etc. She would have their parents fill out the Young eagle forms ahead of time so we would have an actual count for kids wanting to fly. Didn’t know if we had any other materials or ideas specific to girls and aviation but I’m sure she’d appreciate any and all ideas. Event is planned from 9 am – 4 pm, her plan is to fly in the afternoon, but understands weather, and number of available planes will determine flight times.

We have several planes schedules to fly but I think we could always use more. This EAA event is covered under the EAA Insurance as a scheduled event.
Thank you.

Re: SNY EAA Young Eagle Flights

Wish I could make it but I'm going out of town on a business trip this weekend to San Antonio. Besides, the aero club decided that they don't want anyone flying Young Eagles besides CFI's for whatever reason.

Re: SNY EAA Young Eagle Flights

Glad you had a good day hicountry. Flying Young Eagles is one of my favorite pastimes! Back in September my EAA Chapter had it's last Young Eagles Day for 2009. One of my flights included two girls. I did the preflight briefing and walkaround with them and then got them strapped in. They were a real talkative duo so I politely asked them to help me and keep quiet at takeoff and landing otherwise they were free to ask questions and talk away. They said "Yup - no problem". Well I got about ten feet off the runway and they both let loose with that high pitched scream that destroys electronics and only girls seem capable of. It scared the beejeebees out of me because I thought something terrible had happened! When I turned down the volume on my headset and got partial hearing back I asked what was wrong and did I need to immediately return to the airport? No, they just thought this was so cool they couldn't hold it in!

Had to take a break after that flight to let my nerves of steel stop vibrating!
