So my brakes are shot...
Have problems with your aircraft? Maybe just questions about how best to tune or adjust something? Regs or maintenance? Need to know the best way to do something?
Well I took the Pacer in for its annual. For the most part everything went fine, but one big problem. My right brake is "pretty beat up, and doesnt look good at all." I have a '57 PA 22/20 with Bodell wheels and brakes. I have been having problems with these brakes. The mechanic said we could try to fix the brakes that are on it, but parts are not very easy to find since it has all gone to Skybound in Georgia and they are not very easy to get a hold of. If I were to get a new brake system, does anyone have any recommendations? I have been researching online. I know Cleveland has a good system, but Im not sure how expensive they are to put on my Pacer. Im not trying to dump a couple thousand into the brakes if I dont have to.. Suggestions?
Thanks!

I upgraded from single puck clevelands to double puck when I put on bushweels. If you wan't to go the single puck cleveland route I can make you a deal on my old ones. I don't think they are really that old. Pretty sure Zane put them on when he owned it not too long before I bought the plane. You'd have to get the STC for your plane, AKBW probably has it for around $125 maybe?

Single puck clev's are great, what I had before bushwheels. If you ever think you will run bushwheels, double puck's are necessary. No STC's for Pacers, but can get it done with a 337 and someone else's paperwork. Call Brian at Steve's Aircraft if you want to go that route.

This is a good deal if you can do single pucks. I bought them brand new and they only had 100 hrs or so on them when I sold the plane to Robw56.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
So they probably have around 300 hours on them total. Now they're sitting in a box in the hangar. Let me know if you could use them.

I have a complete set of Bodell brakes and wheels for a PA-22/20 I'm not using.

If you can't find a good deal on Cleveland’s and an STC I'll make you a good deal on this package I took off a plane I scrapped. Then you can get yours back in service and have some spars.

If you’re interested send me a PM.

Lots of people upgrade to the clevelands when they convert a PA22 to tailwheel. The stock hydraulic drums are Clevelands I think, a friend of mine's PA22/20 had them & they worked just great. Not as easy to replace linings as Cleveland discs though.
Univair appears to have an STC for Cleveland disc brakes on a PA22, #SA91AL per their catalog. Not sure if they sell it wothout the whole brake kit though. They also have an STC for the PA-20, again thugh probably not sold seperately.
Does "Svenn" (king of the $250 Pacer STC's) have one for Clevelands?

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!
My dad just put Clevelands on his PA-22 with a field approval. Try to find a set for a Stinson because everything bolts right up. The wheels and calipers off of a Cessna will work, but the backing plate won't work.
