Solo in the S-7

My son and his wife came to MN for a visit. He hadn't flown a TW in several years and I took him up in the S-7 for a short familiarization. Dang, those youngsters sure catch on quickly!! Well, his military and civilian pilot training might have a little to do with it too......nah, it was my awesome instruction. We'll go with that. LMAO!!

I suggested he try flying from the front seat and doing some solo flights to get a feel for the outstanding performance when solo. He did an awesome job considering it was his first solo in/out of my strip. My strip is in the woods and has trees and hill on the end, plus it is very rare when there isn't a crosswind. He actually landed the first time (with me aboard) with a 20+ kts near direct crosswind. Anyways...this is his first solo T/O and landing at my place.

Where abouts in MN is your strip?. It looks familiar but I can't place it. I did a bunch of flying in my 50 mile circle around Two Harbors during the 40hr flyoff of my CCEX and now travel between Duluth and New Richmond Wisconsin quite a bit.

Hope Keith doesn't mind but found him a while back. He is clear to the right and half way up.

Re: Solo in the S-7

Thanks guys! Anyone is welcome to visit whenever they are in the area. Strip isn't for the neophite but not anything difficult. Trees on both ends and definitely not flat. Both ends drop off about 10' so basically a high spot in the middle. Roughly 1800' from trees to trees.

C130 Jake, I'm north of Park Rapids about 20+ airmiles. I saw your CC parked near my hangar in town a while back (may have been a couple of years ago).

I'm just on the east side of Itacsa State Park. Marty's photo has my strip on it but will add, that is a pretty old gogglemaps photo. The SW end of the strip has been finished and is smoother and grass is green (well, it was before recently buried with that white crap!)
