South Central Alaska / Cordova and Valdez "snowpocalypse"

Just spoke to a friend in Cordova and he says that town is shut down! Roofs are caving and roads have 3 feet of snow in the roads. Avalanches closing the road in and out of town, and complete white out conditions. Said it felt as though it was snowing nearly a foot an hour. Over 250 inches town already.
Its crazy how much snow is on the ground now. Heli season starts in 3 weeks.

I wish we could get some of that down in the Sierras.

Snowgo riding was good today. Snowing hard again, too. More plowing tomorrow. :-)

Still snowing this morning here in Anchorage. When it gets light I'll start moving snow around. I guess it's time to drag the airplane skis out of storage, too. Too many things to do. Not enough time to do them.

Interesting comparison of the snow pack this year vs. last year. The front range of CO has been getting some great snow though.

I cant figure out how to down load pics on here. We have gotten some snow in the past few days. Unlike Anchorage and Cordova. Still coming down. Need to sweep off the plane today, for ice fishing is closing in. Matt hope all is well and the flying is going great. James how is the flying in Canada? Take care and happy flying..

Re: South Central Alaska / Cordova and Valdez "snowpocalyps

The Anchorage area had good starts on a winter snowpack twice only to see warm winds melt it down. The problem is the ground was already frozen so now with all this snow on top of the ice below we're set up for spring flooding on area rivers and streams. We'll just have to smile and enjoy the good part while it lasts. Still snowing and now starting to blow a bit, too. Nothing but work to keep things moving. Burned a full tank of gas in the Polaris 800 plowing snow. Burned a tank in my body, too, cleaning it up with a shovel. A couple of Alaskan Ambers will fix that. At least the temps have been consistently cold. A quick sweep of the wings and they're ready to fly and I haven't had wing covers on all winter. Gotta go dig out the skis. As the days get longer and the weather gets more predictable the best part of life in Alaska is right around the corner. Springtime snow sports. Snowgos and airplanes make me smile. Plowing? Not so much. :-)

Get the skies on Stew for the good flying is coming soon. Days are getting longer a gain of 4 minutes a day.

Ha. If you don't like the weather wait a day, right? Yesterday heavy snow, today severe clear and temps hovering at or just below zero. But....

Tomorrow the wind in S Anch is predicted at 40-60G80. Yippee. Valdez is going to get more snow. Cordova has 100% chance of heavy rain. More fun for all.

Sounds like they are having fun with all that snow. We don't get a lot of snow here it just last forever.
It is -28 here at the house and is to warm up to +7 tomorrow. Heat wave. =D>
