Southern Chile

Not necessarily information about airstrips or airports, but more general info about a greater area or a route of flight.

Southern Chile

I'm looking at an investment in southern Chile, and it looks like there could be some great backcountry flying opportunities there. Anyone have any experience in that area or know what the Chilean FAR/AIM is called and where I can find it?

Re: Southern Chile

I used to chat with a guy from Argentina who flew his 170B as well as gliders in Chile. A far as I know it's pretty accommodating civil aviation environment.

We have another fellow on here (@Canalguna) who flies in Chile I believe.

Re: Southern Chile

There’s also at least one Chilean (Chilecubdriver) on SuperCub.org. He doesn’t post often, but it still might be worth posting your inquiry there, as well.

There is a small but active soaring community in Santiago, and they seem welcoming to other pilots. If chilecubdriver can’t be reached perhaps a post on a soaring forum will also connect you with helpful people.

I searched high and low for Chilean FARs on line and struck out. There is an office in Santiago where you can buy sectional charts (which are absolutely beautiful), but I’ll be darned if I can find the address. However, if you stay at any of the better hotels in Santiago I think your concierge could help locate the address and phone number.

Thanks. I lurk on the SuperCub forums, so I'll try to find him. Thanks for the info!

...
.

Not "small", actually. It's a major operation and looks, feels and works like a top notch country club, best I've seen anywhere. A small number of its members own other aircraft besides gliders, helicopters being their favorites. If you can't find the info you're searching for let me know and I might be able to connect you (COVID 19 could cause some delays, however).

Re: Southern Chile

PM sent Quis. We have lots of possibilities here and I'd be glad to help anyone willing to come visit. Our version of the Far/Aim is quite complicated until you understand the ilogical approach of the government desk drivers.
Thanks @Zzz for the heads up; had not check the website in a long time.

I flew my Maule down to Patagonia a few years ago and loved flying in Chile. There is a pretty robust general aviation scene going on and the flying is easy compared to other countries.
Puerto Montt has an awesome flying club with the friendliest people you will ever meet. Patagonia is fantastic, as you would expect, but the winds can really howl down in the roaring forties.
Over all, I can recommend it!
