Speed & Angels DVD Review

I recently got a copy of Speed and Angels. I put it in the DVD player not really knowing what to expect. Even after watching the previews on the website I wasn't sure if it was going to be an aviation love story like "16R", plane pr0n like "Big Rocks & Long Props", or an over-dramatized documentary with a cheesy narrator. What it ended up being was sort of a combination of all three... without the narrator. It tells the story of two rookie Navy pilots learning how to fly the F-14, dogfight, and land on carrier. Maybe it's the way in which the story is told or maybe it's the subject matter, but it reminded me of PBS's series "Carrier" with some really cool "Top Gun" type footage sprinkled in.

Being a somewhat easily impressed GA pilot who once said "I want to be a fighter pilot when I grow up", I really enjoyed the move. The real recommendation comes from my wife. Not only did she stay up late to watch it with me but she didn't fall asleep once during the entire movie! THAT is impressive!

I am the text I create.

Agreed! Speed & Angels is a great movie. I first saw it at OshKosh this summer at the outdoor evening theater. The male pilot, Jay, was there to introduce the film. My favorite quote of his that night was "when I came back from my first tour of duty in Iraq, I had a pile of cash and everyone said I should buy a house. I bought a Stearman instead". The crowd roared with approval before being scattered by an incoming thunderstorm. So much for outdoor theaters sometimes. Saw the entire film later on though and just wanted to highly recommend it too. 2 thumbs up.

I was with you at Osh. It was a surreal night being immersed in aviation watching a big screen flying flick with two towering cumulus framing the screen with lightning. Me and my 13 year old son were eating popcorn and watching both shows (natures and the movie). Ran back to the tent in vintage under the wing of the J5. Thats where I made the decision to go Husky. It's been a good year.
