Re: Splat!

No Splat! That would be like us telling one of the pilots here...Crash!!!

Those just happen to be our friends. Some of the very best at what they do...

Google lowrider, Well I cant give his real alias (unless he chooses to), but Google Red Bull Baffin Base trip....you we see him....

He has a low profile here, but one of the best skydive and base jumpers in the world. One of the guys in the vid here works for me in Alaska.

Re: Splat!

Fact is that once in a while we crash and they splat now and then. Not good in either case,

Re: Splat!

I couldn't help myself. When they showed the aerial view looking down on them jumping off the cliff, all I could think of was Wily E. Coyote going splat! :D

I know how you feel. A couple of months ago I saw an old board game that was titled "Crash - The Airplane Game". I thought "What a catchy title!".

Thanks for the video. It was almost zen-like. =D>

Re: Splat!

Like the line from the movie "Wall Street", GREED IS GOOD, STEEP IS GOOD, straight up and down as good as it gets for a base jumper I'm sure, speaking as an old hang glider pilot.

Now, much more spooky, and I'm sure it happens all the time, is when a base jumper finds a new virgin site, that is NOT steep, but MAYBE steep enough, that would be the real test of their decision making abilities. Great video, worth sitting through the slow Vimeo (at least for me) download. Great quality anyway.

Hey, no helmets, what's up with that?? Seriously, that seems more extreme then the jump itself, don't most skydivers and base jumpers do so?

Re: Splat!

Helmets are used when skydiving in the event of a mid air collision and your jumping with several knuckle heads jumping out behind you....Some Low altitude jumpers (base) use them as well. Sort of like skiing with a helmet...some do some dont.

No helmets when base jumping is like riding a motorcycle without a helmet. These guys in the vid are seriously some of the best at what they do. They are not free-flying and no one is jumping in on them. There has been a lot of communication prior to the jump as to who, when and where they are breaking off and pulling.

I concur with the splat and crash. It can happen to any of us for certain. The problem with base jumpers is that now so many of them have only a few skydives and think its the cool thing to do. Back when we started skydiving, you did not even think about base until you had several hundred jumps. Same goes with wing suits....now everyone wants one but does not have the experience. It would be like a guy who has flown a 152 or 172 for a 100 hours and then decides he is going fly a helio courier tomorrow..well maybe not that extreme..will say a 185....

Re: Splat!

We just had 2 guys from the Red Bull Air Force come out to our dropzone last week and one of them did the Baffin Island base jump trip a few years ago. We got to talking and decided to take my Queen Air up there in 2012. I can't wait! I have 11,000 skydives but no BASE jumps, the thought of it scares the hell out of me but I am doing it anyway.
