Sport Aviation: Building the Tundra

There's a nice short article on building the Dream Tundra in this month's EAA Sport Aviation. We've got a few of these flying here on BCP. Philip, are you with us here?

Re: Sport Aviation: Building the Tundra

I actually stumbled upon this site by searching the Dream Aircraft Tundra. I've been drooling over it for years. Maybe one day..

I believe the man in the article goes by World Voyagers on bcp.

Re: Sport Aviation: Building the Tundra

They are Montana 2800 amphibs, which I also built. Four place aircraft with an empty weight of 1,800, gross of 2,800, so that gives a 1,000 lb load. The same as a 206 amphib. I have 54 gal fuel usable. 10.5gal/hr cruise at 108mph. Aerosport Power O-375 (200hp), Whirlwind CS-200.

Re: Sport Aviation: Building the Tundra

I see the waterline on the floats, the aircraft has plenty of freeboard. I like that!

Great looking airplane, thank you for the video and logs!

Re: Sport Aviation: Building the Tundra

Phil and family have not only put together a great float plane, they made some improvements over the stock arrangements. He has been a help to other Tundra owners by sharing those tips in the true spirit of homebuilding. I am incorporating one of those refinements into mine to increase the gravity fuel flow rate. This has become increasingly important as we increase hp over the standard recommended engines. Thanks Phil.

Do you guys recommend this magazine?? I always thought it was only for homebuilders but it seems to have cool stuff for all to read.

The link above allows you to download this issue and few past issues as well... so is that illegal poaching?

I like the magazine and it has relevant articles with a tilt toward homebuilt of course, but even those flying certified benefit from a better understanding of systems and techniques and in the back country that could be just as important to survival as fishing without a license. Poach away.

If it doesn't require you to login to read it, it's not poaching, it's something they've made available to the public.

Actually there is very little in it for home builders anymore. With the hiring of Macclellen, Wallace and several others, it's more like a Flying alumni association now.

Re: Sport Aviation: Building the Tundra

I recommend EAA Sport Aviation magazine for those NOT interested in homebuilding. With authors like J Mac and some of the other boring writers you can count on that publication not being much anymore.

I want to quit EAA, and boycott their sponsorship after reading Sport Aviation!

It's an ego fest! "...Look at me I am frick'n cool..." Boring read. :x
