Sportsman and VG

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

That depends a bit on what floats the plane is on.

On Cessnas with floats, I always START the T/O run with flaps 20. Once I feel like I’ve got a pretty good handle on the T/O, I’ll then start with flaps 20, get on the step, and when it feels like it may be ready (read VERY subjective) I’ll reach down to flap handle, punch the release and lower flaps to ~ 30 till the plane pops out of the water, then level in low ground effect, and ease flaps back to 20.

That all takes about 3 or 4 seconds. If the plane doesn’t fly, you’ve just extended your takeoff run, so till you’re REALLY shit hot with this, use big lakes. Some floats will respond to a pull or pull and roll simultaneous with the flap pull, some won’t.

Electric flaps? Best of luck....they’re really too slow to play this game well, IMHO. But, worth a try.

But remember, you MUST level the plane and let it accelerate in low ground effect, if it does launch...you will be waaay behind the power curve till you add some knots.
