SPOT LANDING CONTEST

The Leadore (U00) third annual 4th of July EMT fund raiser fly-in is adding an arrival spot landing contest. Not a STOL competition, just an opportunity to practice precision landings at 6000 feet elevation on gravel or grass. I got the idea from watching a blancolirio video. https://www.youtube.com/live/86K9M8-eqQ0?si=px
I would appreciate any input as to how to make it safe and fun.

Re: SPOT LANDING CONTEST

A few years ago we had an informal ‘precision landing and take off’ event and came up with a scoring method. PM me if you’d like to see the work sheet.

In addition to spot landing, participants were scored on how close they came to meeting their own predicted numbers for takeoff and landing rolls. It was all about calling your shots and being scored on how close you came to making them.

Re: SPOT LANDING CONTEST

Seems a pretty easy going area

Good on them to sponsor money for EMTs, in the US out of all the professions I’d wager that’s the the most deserving of thanks

I love this, I might be able to make it because I'll very likely be in Salmon that week. Where do I find more information?

From a safety standpoint, clear communication on procedures in advance and some form of ground-based control would be a good idea IMO.

Re: SPOT LANDING CONTEST

I'd suggest putting the "spot" about 500' down the runway--
you don't want someone who's really really trying to hit that spot to undershoot and land short of the runway.

LEADORE (U00)
JULY 4TH SPOT LANDING
PILOT BRIEF
The Leadore (U00) third annual 4th of July EMT fund raiser fly-in is adding a arrival spot
landing contest. Not a STOL competition, just an opportunity to practice precision
landings at 6000 feet elevation on gravel or grass.
In simplest terms, arriving aircraft may choose to touch down at a well marked white
chalk line on the appropriate runway depending on wind conditions. Volunteers will
measure and record the results. Certificates of results will be presented to all
participants.
If interest is sufficient, for a $20 donation to the Leadore EMT’s, pilots may make 4
additional spot landings. 2 power on, and 2 power off. Recognitions will be awarded.
1. Think safety at all times!
2. If something doesn’t seem right speak up.
3. No show boat flying/ steep climb outs.
4. Keep pattern flow working/ watch spacing.
5. Clear runway after landing for next plane.
6. Landing mains on or after line is good.
7. Tailwheel does not count.
8. Touching mains before line is a disqualification.

HAVE FUN BE SAFE!
