It just occurred to me that it might be useful (and pretty nifty) to have the ability to incorporate the SPOT data of SF and BCP users on the shortfield exporer (SFx) tool. After a little research, I'm pretty sure I can do it.

Here is how it would work. I would add a new field to your shortfield.com user profile and if you own a SPOT (and want to share your location with others) you would enter your SPOT ID into that field. From the SFx map interface you would be able to select from a list of participating users to see thier SPOT data overlayed on the map.

Before I spend any time on this I'd like to get an idea of how many SPOT owners there are out there and if you think this would be a feature you might use. Let me know.

I'm a SPOT user, but as a cheap guy, I do not have the auto tracking capability. I push the okay button as I change course, land, or have other events I want to mark. I don't see the need for a continuous track. Others obviously don't agree.

Either way, except for the wow factor, I don't see much use of such a feature. In some cases, the exact path might be interesting, but most of the time I would not bother to look at my path or someone else's.

I think it's a cool idea. In addition to SPOT data, I suggested to Chris the option to overlay track data export from my 496.

It's novel for sure.

Think I'll save my $$$ for airplane gas and keeping a good basic set of survival gear to wear and in my vest...

Most days around here I really don't want people knowing where I've flown.

chris, i think the option would be nice, but not sure i'd use it...
probably better use of our time than shooting shirts in the desert, though!
