Spot Shared Link Test

I tried posting a link to my spot shared page in my Sig. Not sure if it worked. I followed westernpilots directions.

My wife, daughter and I are going to go check out a few strips on the Rogue River today and I thought I would see if we could get some tracking w/ spot.

We should be leaving Bandon (S05) around 12:30-1:00 today.

Thanks for letting me experiment.

Corrected Link

I'll be watching Brent. That's my lunch break.

Hey Highroad,

Which strips are you going into? Make sure to post some pics when you get back.

Hey Brent-

Try putting a " ] " between the last letter of the URL and the word "My"...that should fix it.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

Thanks for all of the help!
We had a great time exploring the R. River. I was disappointed to find that the Agnus strip was X-out as we were hoping to have lunch at the lodge. Anyone know if you can get permission to go in there?

Also looked at Paradise and both ends had white X's.
Half moon just across the river from Paradise looked good and we Landed. Nobody around and it wasn't until I walked to the approach end of the strip that I noticed the X overgrown w/grass.

Guess everyone is afraid of the Liability. Its to bad because this is a beautiful part of Oregon to access w/airplanes.

Landed on a large gravel bar just down river from Agnus and gave the 8.50's a good work out. Rocks were small w/ some scattered softball'sh size rocks.

Anyway, anyone have any info or access to these Rogue airstrips?
If not, a set of 31" AK Bushwheels and there would 50+ places to play up and down the river.

Also noted just up river from Agnus an area that looked like about 1000ft of grass that was mowed for a strip. Power lines over the upriver end. Is this someones private strip?

We put together a nice video of the outing but could not get it formatted to post tonight. I will work on it and get it up as soon as I can.

How long will my shared spot page show todays trip? Is it just 24 hrs?

Also, those of you running 8.50's. What air pressure do you run in the mains and the Tail Wheel? I have been running just under 25psi and would like to go lower if it will make a difference in the rocks.

Thanks again for all of the help with the spot tracking,
Brent

I run 15psi in my 8.50's and it works fine. Might want to go a bit more if your heavy. 25psi sounds a bit to much though.
Tailwheel tire, just so its good and firm. Don't know that I ever gauged it.
As far as making a difference on the rocks. Lower pressure will stop you alot shorter. But also requires more room to take off. Absorbs the rock impact better to. Just be careful landing on pavement with low tire pressure. I've never had my plane on pavement, but I'll bet it's squirrely.

It's still there this morning, Monday at 8:45.

I was hoping to see what the custom messages would look like, was glad to see you sent a couple of them at the end of the list. Do I understand right, that you load the messages, say from your computer before leaving, then do something like <send msg #1> from your Spot while you're out and about?

Benton,
That is correct. You enter what you want the message to say on your spot home page before you go. Then when you push the button it sends that message.

I have an "okay" message and a "help" message

There is also a "911" button that sends for Professional Rescue services.

My last flight is still on spot tracking after 6 days. I have seen it remain for as long as 10 days. I am not sure what the trigger is to delete from the company other volume of usage. I think summer months the tracking is for a shorter time frame.

If you have arranged with family or friend to track you it is probably best to have it done on a daily basis with an OK message sent for every new airport landing or at a specific time of day.

For the money it is a good safety, comm device.

Highroad, welcome. Nice videos. That's in the backyard of where I grew up in Grants Pass. Those strips on the Rogue are fun but not for the faint of heart. :) That is a great video of the approach to Half Moon Bar. You should post it on Shortfield.com.

Not sure what the deal with Agness is, but I know a guy in a 180 crashed leaving Paradise just a few years back. They may be a little shy about letting uninvited traffic in nowadays.

1SeventyZ,
Thanks for the welcome. I have been hanging out around here for awhile and finally decided I should start contributing and not be so lazy!

Anyway,
Southern Oregon is great and I really enjoy flying in this area.
I have heard about several accidents on the Rogue strips and am not surprised that they may not want people in there. I am going to do some research and see if I can get permission for some of them.

Re: Spot Shared Link Test

I can't get my SPOT Shared Page link to display correctly in the signature. Can someone have a look at it and tell me what I'm doing wrong? I tried both of Zanes examples with no joy.

Re: Spot Shared Link Test

For some reason the signature block is fairly picky about using quotes in the BBcode. I removed your quotes and it started working normally.

I have also added a custom profile field for Spot page URL.

Re: Spot Shared Link Test

You can go to tinyurl.com and create a custom tiny url, say with your n-number, and point that to your spot page. Makes it easy for folks to remember.
