Neither could I get them in the ground no matter where I tried although I never did try them at the beach which is where I think they might work. I finally broke down and got a set of Fly ties.. using a pounder(Hammer) is much easier than holding a cork screw while you run around in a circle trying to get it to bite into the ground. besides Fly Ties hold the plane down waaaay better than those useless things which originally were sold at pet stores so you could tie your dog to them...also the fly ties fit into a little 12 inch bag which fits under my seat...

Actually the ones I hace are the ones out of Sporty's. There aren't the dog tiedown ones, but I think are about as useless. They resemble the first 360 of an auger, but have the same problem: really hard to get them to bite the ground. If there are any rocks, etc., forget it. Sounds like I had better get something ordered and overnighted. Wish I would have asked this earlier. Oh well, I have been wanting to get some anyway.

Thanks for the info.

Got my Flyties oredered today. Should be here by Thursday for the flyin! :D

Hey Gary, what is giong to be the protocol for parking. Obviously first come, first served. Just wondering if there will be certain areas we aren't to park and if they will be marked. I'm thinking we'll relagate ourselves to one end or the other in the event the little one wake up in the middle of the night.

Re: Spring Utah Fly-in Pt 2 (New and improved dates May 7-9)

Hey Cory
Not much in the way of protocol or rules here. Park anywhere you like, other than mid field.

I will make references based on amacbean's photo near the end of page 6. That being said, there is a large field with an outhouse close buy south of the garden area. Lots of room there, particularly if anypeople want to bunch up.

Rod has done a pretty good job of clearing the area, mid field on the east side of the runway. Could probably park 20 planes there, camp by the plane, and score the landings. And a good place to watch the sunsets with a cold one.

There is quite a bit of room behind the lodge(W), possably a little more protected, and a little closer to the other outhouse, bathrooms, cave rooms, and showers.

You should have recieved my waiver and check for the shirt. I will just bring cash for the night or nights we stay. Thanks for all your hard work.

Speaking of Tie Downs, How is recuperation going with your wrist /hand?
Bill, the hand is progressing slowly. I can almost make a fist and my wrist movement is pretty limited. I can fly though now which I couldn't a few weeks ago cause I couldn't grip the yoke with my left hand, and I go to therapy twice a week...The Maule has been down for a couple weeks as I'm having the Maule pop out windows installed. It's been a long process as they only send you the plans and the entire frame has to be cut , welded and put together from scratch. The passenger door is done and the pilot door is due to be done today. Wish I could try them out on the Utah fly in but mothers day takes preference. Fly safe and have a good time.. Here's hoping our paths cross again soon...Butch :D

Butch,
Glad to hear you are on the mend. I got some ultra sound on my shoulder and it seems a lot better. I did the pop out window on the co-pilots side, pilots side was done from new. I also put in the patroller doors at the same time. It certainly is a project that takes patience even when the guy knows what he is doing. The estimated one day took 2 1/2 days.

Is there anyplace along the way you think I should air tour or stop and see? I already have Dolores Point, Mexican Mt on the map, 2 places I want to see. Been to Mineral Canyon. I have Galens Utah book.

Here is a link to the google map. You can add place marks by clicking the edit button. The map is set to collaborate which means anyone can make changes.

Hope to see you there Rob and gang. 40-50mph winds here in the Springs today followed by snow tonight and rain tomorrow, followed by 30mph winds Saturday and possible thunderstorms on Sunday. Makes for terrible mountain flying. Hoping for a better forecast to cross the Rockies.

Dirtstrip made it into SNY this morning. He will overnight here and we will try to leave in the morning. It's cold, windy and overcast here as I write this message..wx doesn't look good for an early morning departure. If there is a priest or medicine man on the site, we need a little help! [-o< [-o<

I am going to try and get there tomorrow afternoon sometime. The big sign on my store blew off today and I need to fix and re-install. Looks like the wx will be great out there this weekend!
