St. George area

Flying down to St. George this weekend with the family. I've never been to south UT before. Might take a sight-seeing tour after we get there sometime during the weekend. Is it worth it to fly over the Zion national park area or is it just more of the same? Anything else a must-do? We'll be coming from Elko direction, probably going back through Wells.

Re: St. George area

Zions is pretty cool, deep canyons and cool rock formations. Then, after flying over Zions, keep going East and fly over Lake Powell. It's beautiful, especially this time of year.

Re: St. George area

Better yet get a rental car in St George and spend a day looking from the ground. It is worth it, and the daily rate was $42 end to end plus gas for me for the car.

1L8 Hurricane, UT has mogas. St George FBO is a place to stay away from.

Re: St. George area

If you are over by Lake Powell, Cal Black has mogas also, and usually cheaper Avgas if ya don't like Mogas.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Is Delle Utah on I-80 out of the way for some mogas?

Bar 10 ranch is a great flight from St. George. Strip is mostly paved. Call ahead and they'll feed you a killer lunch.

Lake Powell 15 years into a 30 year drought. Mead looks much the same. Hey, I know, let's build some more houses in the desert. On a more serious side, I read somewhere that a firm in Long Beach will build you a portable desalinator for about 3 billion. Portable being a relative term of course.

Meh. If I'm going to get rid of my disposable income, I'd rather get rid of it all at once. Pass.

Re: St. George area

We had a great time there. Had no issues with the St. George FBO. Their new airport is nice but a bit out of town, would have been cool to land at the old airport up on that mesa. Stopped at Elko on the way there and Wells on the way back. Wells' airport is a bit of a fixer-upper but did have a bathroom and lowest price fuel around. Weather could not have been much better.. headwind on the way there so we stayed low, but tailwind on the way back so we climbed high.
