Early June is too early. I say screw Idaho Aeronautics; have it on the weekend we always have it.

Have you considered another airport? I don't think you really want to piss off Idaho Aeronautics and just show up with 100+ planes. That would probably be the end of our welcome at JC. After last years night time fire power display I'm a bit surprised they aren't balking at the reservation request this year. JC is a great place to host the fly-in, lots of amenities which make it convenient to camp. But there must be other places we could gather.

Re: JC - 2014 Dates POLL!! ****IMPORTANT *****(5 days)

Later for sure! Late June has not let us down yet.
As far as pleading our case with Idaho Aeronautics, and/or the JC caretaker over runway recovery/condition, I think it's solid to say the runway would fare much better to have back to back fly-ins in dry conditions vs. having a hundred airplanes slopping it in on wet soil for a early June weekend.
I'm just trying to be like minded (thinking green) with them, but my thought might have common sense so.....

Any way, later is better as far as my vote goes. We should just come in June 27-29 like always. Were not changing anything up, just staying status quo.
Thanks for taking this on Bryan, you da man!

For selfish reasons later is better. Wife is due with #2 June 12th.

Have we every thought about mid July? It would give a good break between fly-ins, warm dry conditions and of course I could make it then.....

Side note...still have not heard from the Heli trip winner from last years fly-in...

Will be giving away another one this year

How about the July 4th weekend? Mid-July (selfish here too) pushes us too close to OshKosh.

Re: JC - 2014 Dates POLL!! ****IMPORTANT *****(5 days)

IMO planning this far in advance is a crap shoot. The wx will do what it is going to do. If we play the odds late June has the best chance of dry but not to dry. Less chance of forest fire's, smoke and TFRs. Less chance of TS.

The Super Cub guys have been rained on so many times I would be glad to see them get some good wx for a change.

I don't have any positive commits for IDA. The season is so short it is wrong to impose government rules. You can no longer escape the government BS.

I vote for no official fly in at JC. Unofficially I might show up June 25-29. Anyone could show up June 27-29 for NO fly in. No officially organized pot luck, shooting, short take off and landing.

Shit just happens sometimes. Am I serious or am I kidding? You decide. :D

Re: JC - 2014 Dates POLL!! ****IMPORTANT *****(5 days)

I'm just thinking out loud here.

I don't think the SC.org group will move for us, not because they wouldn't want to, but because it has been planned for a while (it's on their calendar) and people plan their entire summer around the fly-in. Some jobs require submitting bids for time off at the beginning of the year, and moving the fly-in a week would not be fair. But, it never hurts to ask. (Dave, I know you're on here, thoughts?)

I agree, June 6-8 is pretty early for good flying and camping weather, but it's always a gamble. Two weekends after is the July 4th weekend, so that is no bueno either. What about the following weekend - July 11-13?

I know we have put thought into moving it to another location? Smiley Creek, Garden Valley, even West Fork, MT?

I feel we need to respect the wishes of the IDA, so "planning" an unofficial fly-in the weekend of June 27-79 would be tasteless. (But as Rob mentioned, if they come, who's to stop them?)

As a refresher, are we alternating weekends in mid/late June every other year with the SC.org group?

Sometimes change can be good.

Right - Steve has already shipped hundreds of calendars - and now there are no less than 3 fly-ins tied to it for NBAW. Missouri Breaks, and the Black Hills Shootout in Spearfish. I'd doubt it if they would change at this point.

What about fall or late summer?

I know several liked attending both but that was when they were back to back weekends, That is not possible if both at JC, But just an Idea, How about BCP using Garden Valley the weekend prior to SC at JC??? Just more for thought.

Re: JC - 2014 Dates POLL!! ****IMPORTANT *****(5 days)

If you plan for the 15th or earlier, you may be rained and/or snowed out for half of the years. It is also very often too early for many of the higher strips and the meadow strips.

If you plan for later than the middle of July, then smoke will do the same thing half the years, and the lower strips will turn into furnaces by late July.

The last weekend in June, and the first or second weekends in July easily comprise the most reliable time frame over the years, followed by September.

Re: JC - 2014 Dates POLL!! ****IMPORTANT *****(5 days)

Matt is right, just showing up would be tasteless. I've got a bad taste for Idaho Aero lately and I let that get the better of me.

I really think you push too far into July and your going to be facing smoke instead of rain. Almost without fail there is a bunch of smoke in the area by mid July. Some weekends are ok but nothing like the great weather we usually have at the end of June. I don't want to be wallowing around in the smoke with 100 other airplanes. If we really are swapping every other year with SC.org then fine lets just have it the same weekend we always do but have it somewhere else.

Re: JC - 2014 Dates POLL!! ****IMPORTANT *****(5 days)

Just a thought-contact the Idaho State aeronautics and see if there is anything we could do as a group that would allow us to use the weekend after the Super Cub flyin. Tourism $$ are important in Idaho, as in other states. It doesn't cost to ask, and maybe we can find a way to work with them.

Re: StandBy......

Perhaps having the event somewhere else or simply taking a year off might be the prudent thing to do.
You are probably being tested by the good folks of Idaho.

I realize there is a group that is committed to this fly-in, but consider the negative impact it has on all the other enthusiasts that use the Idaho backcountry strips.

The true test of this "Event" would be testing it's success if it were to be held at say, Indian Creek… or Warren.

What you all do impacts us all!

Re: StandBy......

Another thought. What about moving it to where the High Sierra flyin was held?

Nobody will complain about firepower out there. Plenty of fun places to fly. And my selfish reason: it's closer. :D

Smiley Creek is a very nice venue, with great facilities. It's a little on the high side at ~7000 msl, but beautiful place.

MTV, are you going to make it to the fly-in this year since you are so close now? It would be nice meeting you to put a face to the name after years of reading your posts here and elsewhere.
