Side note: if you don't already own a Spot or PLB, looks like a good time to exploite your wife's frame of mind to justify the purchase. Throw in the ACRLink too if that is the direction you go. I count my lucky stars every day that my wife loves our backcountry trips and looks forward to them every year.

^^^ Good advice. There's nothing worse than a loved one at home on edge, actively worrying that you're in danger. For some reason my girlfriend doesn't worry much about me, but my folks do.

I have a spot mounted to my panel. I've been using it for the past couple of trips and the Mrs really likes it. I have it set up to email and text her along with a bunch of others. Seems to be working great for me so far. I know a lot of folks have had issues with the spot.
