STEC 50 AP Disconnect Switch Issue
Have problems with your aircraft? Maybe just questions about how best to tune or adjust something? Regs or maintenance? Need to know the best way to do something?
Good Day All,
The STEC 50 installed in an aircraft that i use works great. No issues at all......however....the owner had the the yoke mounted disconnect switch replaced only due to the fact that it was "sheared off" and wanted a new one put in. After the "test" function...as per normal..the "RDY" light is illuminated. Next, when you push the "on/off" button to engage the STB mode nothing happens. After playing with it for a minute or two...I realized that if i hold the A/P disconnect switch in, in the depressed position I can activate the "STB" mode. To put it simply...if I hold the A/P disconnect switch in..the unit works fine.
Any ideas..a simple or complex fix?
Cheers

They probably installed a "Push to Talk" type switch instead of an "On Off" switch.
I'll leave it to others to figure out how that might happen

As I recall the push button only is used to complete a connection that holds a relay somewhere in the system on the altitude hold portion. As far as the nav portion I am not sure.all Cobham aka stec 1-817-215-7600 ask for tech support they can help.
