Awesome. Must be open early this year. Are there any tie downs? I've been thinking about heading for the Stehekin Pastry for a weekend. They pick you up and let you use the car while you are there.

Yeah nice to have it open before the PNW catches on fire again.
I think there are some tie downs but don't know for sure. You probably would be better off bringing your own.
Check WSDOT Aviation before heading over. I think it is next week they are closing the strip for a couple of days for herbicide application.

Where do you check to find out it was opened early? AFD says closed until June 1. I don’t see anything on WSDOT web site about early openings.

Hi Rod.
Go to:
http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/aviation/Airports/ and look just to the bottom right of the picture of the plane and you will see: "Is Your State Airport Open? "
Open this and you will see the status of all the State managed airports. For example Tieton was inspected yesterday and pending decision for early opening and Stehekin being closed evening of 5/25 and opening again morning of 31st.

Yeah, Airspace notam. I would not be surprised that Growlers out of Whibey NAS were flying in the area. They work the valley over in Methow lots and there are a couple of oil burner routes to the South and West of Stehekin. The one to the south is over Lucerne which is minutes away from Stehekin. I have never seen a Growler down in the Stehekin River valley or Lake Chelan but it is not out of the question.
My guess is the herbicide Notam has not been issued yet.
