Watched the Steve Fossett video tonight on the Discovery channel.
Looks like Bumper got a lot of "air" time.

Hey hey!

Bumper, man you are looking good on discovery! 8)

Even got some good footage of your Husky, on the gound and in the air. 8)

Had to even ignore some phone calls while watching. Got caller ID so no big deal

Robert "Bub" Wright, aka Skylane, passed away in November of 2011. He was a beloved community member and will be missed.

Another showing tonight......

For those of you like me who got home late and forgot to set the Tivo this morning, it looks like it is on Discovery again tonight at 11 pm PST.

As an old flying buddy of mine said re: Mr Fossett....

"It seems that some people think that the amount of money a person has in the bank is a direct reflection of their aviator skills. If that were the case I should have been dead a long time ago."

I had a friend that took his seat belt off to reach into the baggage compartment of his Super Cub, for more shotgun shells, and while he was stretched out across the seat backs, reaching into the baggage area, the little belt loop on his Levis hooked on the door release lever, the door came open with all of his weight against it. He fell out and caught the wing strut with his armpit. His feet were trying to hang on, as he was falling out, so they caught the stick, pulling it back to the right rear corner of travel. The Cub went straight up into a right wingover, as he was trying to get back in. I asked him how long it took him to get back into the plane, and he said "Seemed like forever, but probably about a third of a second!!". If he had of fallen completely out of the plane, we would have been wondering why his body was so far from the plane too....

Along with fame comes some issues, (I mean, look what happened to Britney Spears). I've been overwhelmed with calls from friends etc. So just a note to you all:

Sorry, but you will need to direct your future calls to my agent and
advertising agency. This won't be unpleasant, as the wait time is usually
less than 45 minutes and a recording will courteously inform you of your
position in line (e.g. "You are caller number 56. Don't hang up and your
call will be answered in the order received.")

Be patient, . . . . I'm worth it!! :D

bumper, saw you on the tube last night. You came across quite nicely. You may have a new career. Interesting show, it should make us all think when we venture out.

Cheers...Rob

I agree with Rob, Bumper you came across as being knowledgeable and competent, I wish I could say the rest of the show was worth watching but I didn't think it was.

It was misleading to entitle the show "what went wrong" as the cause was, and may always be, speculative; not to mention only the last few minutes of the show addressed the topic. Intelligent speculation might not even be that bad but tidbits like "it couldn't have been engine failure because when that happens a plane falls straight down and the debris field indicates that wasn't the case" made me cringe. Although I haven't been blessed with too many engine failures, none of them resulted in my aircraft falling straight down.

So, it's worth watching if you want to see some video of the countryside where the accident occurred, see Bumper represent our community well, or are interested in Fossett's background, but if you want to know "what went wrong" forget it.

Come on now, most planes will not just fall out of the sky, striaght down to the earth after an engine failure!! :-k Atleast, I know mine won't.

I thought they made that Stutka dive bomber sound and careened earthward at a dizzying speed. At least that's what the movies show.
