Stevens-Crosby 08U

Anyone been lately or is it still winter there (snow, mud)? For anyone who has ever been there, any comments including fishing and camping possibility within walking distance of the strip would be appreciated.

Re: Stevens-Crosby 08U

I can take a drive up there to check it out maybe this coming Sunday. Not much around there. Should be dry as most of the roads around the Elko area are bone dry now. I'm sure camping is not a problem. But can be windy. Been getting down in the low 30's-high 20's lately. Not sure what springs are worth fishing nearby. Most of the property around the airstrip is private.

BlackRock will be back tonight from a business trip and I'll get with him for more info.

It sure is a nice valley with trophy Elk nearby. But again. It's mostly private property in the area's on the west side of the highway.

I stop by the airstrip (drove in) earlier tonight and the strip is in pretty good shape. It's in need of a new windsock. But most likely you be landing to the north (slight uphill) anyway.

Again, nothing there and dry camping only. Nice views of the mountains and star gazing at night when it's clear.

Closest place to land and fish would be Sheep Creek Resorvior on the Duck Valley Indian Reservation. But you have to get a permit at the store in Duck Valley. Too far to walk. Maybe hitch a ride?

Wow, that's what I call service! I'll have to think of some other area strips that I can get you to drive (or fly) to. I know that Stevens-Crosby is very close to the North Fork of the Humboldt River (a few hundred yards) and 20 years ago there were fish in this creek a few miles upstream of the airport (I know 'cause I caught some). Are there no fish near the airport or is it an access issue (private land)? Thanks for checking this out! If you have any questions about the condition of other strips in the area, ask away - I may have been there recently.
