Stinson 108-3

This forum is a great resource ! I have been reading on it and appreciate all the insight. I am wondering if anyone has information on the Stinson 108-3 with Edo 2870 floats. I understand there is an STC for it and am looking for information on what it takes to float one on 2870s ? I am in Alaska and have seen a few over the years but have not been able to find any information on the installation the STC is SA1-48 but that all the local FISDO had. I would love to talk to anyone who has one on 2870s ! Thanks

Re: Stinson 108-3

The guy who runs the Yahoo Stinson group has one of floats and would be a wealth of information.

I can help with the rest, or some, or a little maybe.

Re: Stinson 108-3

I put a -3 Super Stinson on 2870's. In fact it was done in Anchorage. I believe that I still have the drawings. They work great but.....the angle of incidence between the wing and the floats is incorrect on the drawings, which I had to correct later. Also, the attach fittings between the struts and fuselage are not available anywhere so you have to have them machined. All in all, they are great but do use up some of your limited useful load. Email me for more details.

Jim, didn't the same guy that bought the O-470 STC from Sam Valdez, buy the STC for the 2870's? Somehow that sticks in my mind.

God put me here to accomplish a certain amount of things...right now I'm so far behind, I'll never die!!

Re: Stinson 108-3

I just found out the STC was owned by a gentleman in NY back in the sixties. I believe he has passed on to bluer skies. If anyone has a copy of it or the drawings please contact me. Thank you

John, no I don't think so. I tracked it all down and do have a set of drawings. However, the STC has been passed along to the original STC holder to his son. He is a rocket scientist (really).

If you do choose to do this conversion I would be happy to share my data on the float to wing incidence angle. Its quite important for takeoff performance.

Re: Stinson 108-3

Ok theres some progress to report thanks to my new compadres on this forum. I spoke to the gentleman in Arizona, thank you John, and he has the STC and is still able to sell it. GOOD.. I am checking the details to see that this STC will apply to this aircraft due to powerplant considerations.
Thank You ! B

Re: Stinson 108-3

My installation was on a -3 with an 0-470. As you probably know there is a -3 on Lake Hood down from Trail Air by the public park. Its on 2870's and powered by a 470.
