Stolen motorhome

My strip is 1,000' above I-15, and to the east, so I often find myself on early morning flights playing the "put the shadow on the centerline" game.

Saturday I saw this over the road truck based motorhome, northbound, and as near as I can tell by using my GPS he was booking right along at 75 to 80! My first thought was damn, that guy's driving MY motorhome! Not that I have one like that, just that I think they are pretty cool, and want one....then again, I have less in my 40 acres then he has in that thing. As he was headed the same way I was, I played around the next few miles with my shadow, and if you havn't tried it, it is harder then it looks, especially in less then smooth air. He never did slow down, you'd think at some point he would have started thinking maybe Highway Patrol Airborne?? I think he must have been from Utah  (inside joke) I was pretty high, shot with a telephoto, about 700'.

Been doing it for years....and I always think it's nice to be flying something that can keep up with traffic, as opposed to the ultralight speeds when I started doing it!

Re: Stolen motorhome

I did something similar many years ago. I was following hiway 95 north of Jordan Valley Oregon in my Ercoupe, when I came up on an Oregon state trooper going the same direction. I moved the shadow into the left lane, passed him, and pulled back into his lane. He flashed all his lights for a second to let me know I had been noticed. The only time I ever passed a cop at 100 mph in a 55 zone.

Re: Stolen motorhome

I used to do the shadow in front of vehicles in a J-3 on the old PHX-Blythe-So.cal highway back in 66 & 67. If they sped up I'd dive, if they slow down, climb or throttle back. It helped to keep from dying of boredom. If they had half a mind to, they could leave me way behind, but most would just ignore it......
It brings back memories....

Humor may not make the world go around, but it certainly cheers up the process... :)
With clothing, the opposite of NOMEX is polypro (polypropylene cloth and fleece).

Man... For some reason I thought you were west of I-15.....

On another note... I am wanting to hit the drag races at the St Anthony airport this Saturday... If the weather holds out.. Any one else gonna try to make it there ?

Re: Stolen motorhome

I always liked to play airbear when I had my 182. Looked enough like an OSP airplane to make the Michigan drivers slow down on I75 in Ohio. Would watch for someone in the left lane passing all the traffic. They would slow down and get back in line as soon as they saw me.

I'll try and make that, if it isn't snowing or blowing 35 mph!

It all looks good, "from a distance".

CG, my attempt at following a line. There is a white vehicle behind my shadow if you look close. It sure does keep ya on your toes! Hope you're getting some airtime in! JW
