Straight tail 172 paint ideas
Aircraft building and project-level overhaul forum -- Kitplanes, experimental amateur-built, homebuilding, or even restoration of certified aircraft.
Curious on opinions of this paint Idea I have for a 172. Its pretty simple. The crayon my kids have is giving a good idea. I plan to use a pretty bright orange. Thanks

I like it! The only thing I'd do, is move the radius' behind the cowl line, or further forward of where you have it. It just makes it 200% easier to paint!!
I just spent a few hours laying paint lines out today myself, and will be laying the first of 3 colors on tomorrow after masking. I'm not sure what your paint experience is, but there's lots of little tricks that make the job go easier, and I'd be happy to pass them on if you want!

I am a rookie painter. I will move the line to the cowl side I think. I didn’t draw it quite right. I painted some on that 182 project of mine and it turned out pretty good. It seemed maybe I needed more paint on the last coat. Some spots had more of an overspray look rather than glossy shiny.

Looks nice. The original paint jobs on straight tails just looked weird (in my opinion, other people will disagree). I prefer Nuvite to paint, but I know I'm in the minority there.

Gravity Strikes Again.
Here's what ours looks like. It would be dead simple to mask off.

I know a guy with an RV7 with the entire tail painted in a contrasting color like that,
and it makes the tail look huge.
You might think about leaving the vertical white and painting just the rudder red.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!
Thanks for the thoughts. I look at the all black tail on Corefile's project and I think it looks very nice. He tied it into the fuselage too. Ill have to think about the tail looking silly.
