Stranded in the mountains

Tell me how people can be this stupid... Stolpas, Kims, and now these two rocket scientists.

Drive up into the Sierras with local wx forecasts nothing but "The storm of the century" on every TV and radio station for hundreds of miles in every direction. In your "new to you" 1989 Jeep Cherokee with no food, clothing, boots, nothing. Come over Carson Pass as the storm starts building, then "drive around a locked gate and go six miles up a closed summer road and get stuck in the mud." Then not be able to walk out the same road, six miles, to the major highway and several resorts. Or, just wait in the Jeep for a few days. Nope, let's just walk a mile and die.

This is proving my theory of human de-evolution. #-o

Re: Stranded in the mountains

you cant fix stupid. With the PLB's we have available to us now, it is just stupid to go remote without some form of emergency comunication. As you stated, the trip should have never happened, or they should atleast should have been geared up to survive a stay in the wilderness. The report says they had camped in the area before, so they obviously had some gear they could have taken with them..

They're not pilots. It's likely they're actually stupid. :)

No Country for Old Men. Something like; "You can laugh. I laugh sometimes myself" I saw the article when it appeared in the local press. I didn't give it too much thought at the time but I remember wondering what in tarnation they were doing out there then. It takes all kinds. A definite Darwin award winner.

Re: Stranded in the mountains

My work involves a lot of remote travel, and the 50 pound cold-weather bag never leaves the truck all year long, along with tire chains, tow rope, etc. I also carry a bacpack with the "72 hour O-shit supplies" when I snowmobile, even on rides of less than a mile in good weather. I also carry a PLB, GPS, BAG, cell phone, Portable radio on the state cops channel, etc. Darwin cantidates like this just convince me that some level of paranoia is necessary to stay alive.

Interesting article. The best part for me were the related links at the end. Both about B.O.

That means higher education has become the downfall of smart people as they lose their ability to reproduce competetively. Darwin could not have seen that coming. :D
