Swiss pilot flying in Suriname, South America

We have a user on here who goes by Dee Gee who made this cool video about flying a 182 in Africa a few summers ago. He's back again with a cool piece about flying charter service in Suriname with Blue Wing Airlines.

Thanks for posting the new video and reminding me of the previous one. Just spent the last half hour enjoying an arm chair adventure! Some amazing video!

Re: Swiss pilot flying in Suriname, South America

Ok! I think I've found a new backcountry bucket list trip to add to the list! Or if I have a career crisis or something. I lived for 2 years in Paramaribo and love Suriname, and the people, dearly. What a great trip down memory lane seeing so many familiar places. I used to ride my bike daily past Zorg en Hoop airfield. With FB finally available to the masses there for the last few years, it's been great to be in contact with a lot of friends there. I can't wait to visit again someday.

Dee Gee, go have some Bami, Nasi, and Roti for me! Oh, and baka bana!

Re: Swiss pilot flying in Suriname, South America

Grassstrippilot, sounds like you picked up a bit of an ear for "taki-taki", that Suriname Creole. Not many roads, lots of strips, so some good flying there. I'd watch every overloaded plane take off from that short narrow Zorg en Hoop airport, hardly a wingspan from the hangars (as you can see in the video). There's a nice little pilot bar at the airport now in the hangar next to the helicopter operator, that's made up of cannibalized AN-2 parts. Friendly place.

When it gets dark, I tried to no avail to be the moral compass for my pilots and keep them out of Diamonds. We're outa there now, but it was a fun 6 months.

I learned Dutch and became fluent in it. Once I was there, I did pick up a little taki-taki. Fawaka! Unfortunately, I've forgotten most of it.

Awesome video, that's the sort of thing that makes me want to sell everything and go fly somewhere less civilized.

That was great! I liked the style of the video. No narration needed.
