T41-B Mescalero
Technical and practical discussion about specific aircraft types such as Cessna 180, Maule M7, et al. Please read and search carefully before posting, as many popular topics have already been discussed.
I had better first introduce myself. Names Randy and I live in Kodiak Alaska. I have been flying around in the back ground and must say this is the most enjoyable and informative group of people I have never met!
I am one step away from buying a 1964 T41-B Mescalero. I have been researching as much as I can on the history and feel like I have read everything out there. The question I have is about the landing gear.I read that the nose gear was off of a 206. Can't verify it anywhere. The Army version boasts the larger nose gear but nothing more is said about it.
Anyone have any info on design or features Iv'e missed on 64 T41-B, I would be grateful.
Thanks.

T-41B has the larger nose FORK with a 6.00x6 tire. Strut is still attached to firewall, so it's not like a 206. The larger nose fork will accept a 7.00x6 tire and is a nice combo with 8.50 mains if you can get a field approval. Otherwise the type certificate lists 6.00x6 tires on all three corners and in the stock configuration the plane can be challenging to land mains first and hold the nose wheel out of rough stuff.

You might need to look at a parts book and match up numbers. Everyone says the 150 HD fork is a 206 but it's not even close. A 206 fork will fit and there are two different styles. Check a part manual and see if it has the correct one. Should be a great plane!

Standard Cessna nose fork is a 5 inch wheel. The HD fits a 6inch nose wheel. I can look up part numbers for Cessna nose forks tomorrow.

The 150 HD Fork looks like it is the same as the standard one, but uses a 15 X 6.00 X 6 Tire. It is fatter but not taller. The Torque Link points forward instead of back too. They use the same parts. I was told this is the same tire as 210 Mains.
You can see the 206 info on the link below but they don't have a 64 Mescalero listed. It is basically a 175 with a larger engine. The name was changed to 172 Powermatic in 64 because of the bad reputation of the geared engine. Not sure what fork or tire was on it. Might have to call Cessna because I'll bet the manuals are hard to find. I believe both the 172 Powermatic and the Mescalero are on the 175 Type Certificate. You could try there. faa.gov
Here are Manuals:

Kaptain K is my new hero. Saved me a bunch of time and money. He knew the plane I was interested in and the price was to good to be true. Glad I didn't fly down. No air worthy certificate. Gov't plane. Only good for parts to me.
Thanks Kaptain K.

Too bad, those T41B's with the IO-360 Cont engine are pretty skookum airplanes. I know two different guys who own T41's and they seem like a great performer.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!
We had several T41B's in Military flying club. The Army version had constant speed props > Air force version had fixed pitch prop. Both sat behind Fuel injected IO-360 Continentals.Engines were a bitch to get running when hot -not bad cold. 6 inch nose gear and over sized mains. Strictly utility interior, with military seats to pound your butt up, with no or very limited soundproofing. Performance was close to 182 -especially in take off .Not a bad airplane for the back country -except for that "non hot start " feature.
