Tail Wheel Draggers

I know this was talked about once, but when I searched I couldn't come up with anything??

I finally got around to taking a picture of mine. It is a home made attachment for a riding lawn mower. It is a "stay on the seat" deal. I modified it to fit the Alaska Bushwheel tire.

Great idea! Just curious but will the weight eventually damage the bolts, shaft, fork or leaf springs?
My hand version has 2 bars parallel left to right where the tailwheel rest on top of the bars rubber to bars. No stress is placed on the mechanical portion of the tailwheel assembly. Probably no issue but it just popped into mind!

Sojorrn,

I've used this on about 4 different airplanes. The scouts have a very heavy tail and I am sure some landings when heavy, do more to the spring then this does.

Anyway, I have not lost or bent any springs. When pushing forward in say snow or wet soil, the spring will arch up some, but no problems.

Originally the fork part was from a factory "hand" dragger. When I went to the bush wheel, I used the 2x4's and that two wheel cart for a temptoary quick fix and a pattern. It's continued working so I have not yet made a steel one. jg

I'd think the wood would kind of act like a softer, sacrificial material anyway, keeping your tailwheel axle nuts unmarred.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

Pretty clever way to get the runway mowed, but it must be hard to get the edges
