Question- Does a tailwheel endorsement count as a BFR or does it have to be signed off specifically as a "BFR" ?????

I think a "flight review" (not called a BFR anymore) has to be noted as such to count -- usually along the lines of "satisfactorily completed flight review per FAR 61.56". At least that's how mine have been logged.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!
Adding a rating counts as a flight review but a tw endorsement is not a rating so I don't think it counts.

Mine are definitely separate...the last time I was current was 1993. Seriously. And no, I don't own a taildragger yet. I did my training in a Citabria.

ANY ground and flight training combined with an authorized instructor MAY count as a flight review IF the training meets the requirements of 91.56 AND the instructor logs as such. A tailwheel endorsement in and of itself does NOT constitute a flight review. That said, by the time I'm done with a tailwheel endorsement, we will have covered the requisite topics required for a flight review and I'm generally willing to endorse that person for a flight review as well as a tailwheel endorsement. This must be done as a separate endorsement in the person's logbook, however.
