Re: Talkeetna Fly-In: Stall To the Ground

If the people who put up the GFM account are accidentally (or uncaringly) putting the pilot's reputation at risk, perhaps they should be asked (by the AK pilot community) to put a notice up on the GFM account to notify the public that this pilot was not the one behind the GFM idea, and that the pilot is not trying to have others fund his mistakes. It sounds like a pretty good guy's reputation can be screwed with undeservedly, and it could be prevented.

From the text in the vid, it wasn't a short landing attempt, it was a slow flight competition. 17 MPH is pretty amazing, regardless.

Ah I didn't catch that.

That's one tough plane and pilot. Credit to both. The wing tips bent and everything bounced around but no major airframe collapse or personal physical damage I guess.

They'll fly again.

High ground spend is the killer in landing or crash. Slow ground speed has saved many, including myself. And aircraft, fixed or rotary wing, that hover out of ground effect land/crash nicely.

FWIW, the GFM has said this since day one:

"Many people at the Fly In asked if there was any way they could help Tom out. As a result, we have started a GoFundMe campaign for him. Tom gave his consent, but is in no way asking for a handout or contribution. He is a real Alaskan Bush Pilot and will rebuild his SQ2 regardless. For those of you who would like to help him out, share the GoFundMe page and follow his progress"
