Tangri-la GREAT NEWS for those that like to fly Utah

I stopped in to Tangri-la yesterday to see if I could find out anything about the questionable status of the resort/airstrip.

For those that know little or nothing about this place, it is one of the coolest(figureatively) spots in Utah. It is on the Colorado River, maybe 10 miles down river from Moab. Has a 3000' strip, that I compare to a clay tennis court, beautiful. Nicest dirt strip I have ever been on.

Our lucky day. The owner, Rod Tangren, was there. Real nice guy. Invited us up to the house, and we talked quite abit about his future plans for his little piece of paradise.

1. The strip is is open, and it is going to stay open. :D :D :D

2. He is redoing everything. Right now he is redoing the rooms, plans on redoing the lodge, which I thought was great the way it is. And then the grounds. I will let him tell you the rest of his plans, but it is all pretty exciting.

3. He is hoping to be open in 6 months.

4. There will be a caretaker there named John. Anyone bringing in extra beer and cigarettes for John will get "points".

4. Anyone that wants to go there needs to call Rod and talk to him. (702.457.5703). You also need to fill out and turn in a release form. I have these forms if anyone wants a copy. You can also have Rod send you one. I am also gonna let UBCP know about this. I expect that you will be able to find all this info and possaby more in the future on their website.

5. The name will be changing to the Caveman Ranch, which is quite appropriate.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Excellent, we need to go out of our way to take care of and encourage strips and owners like this. Thank you for sharing.

John doesn't care about brands, happy(appreciates) with whatever he gets.

Wow that's quit a flip, couple years ago Bud said hey come on over and his son-In Law had put a wagon with a red barrel on it in the middle of the runway.

Maybe economic times have adjusted some thinking habits.

Very good news indeed

I would like a form. [email protected] Is it possible that you could put a downloadable attachment that we could print off the site? Where do we send it? Email, fax or snail mail? Thanks!

Re: Tangri-la GREAT NEWS for those that like to fly Utah

Great news Gary. I'm glad to hear it. Hey, we didn't make it down due this week due to the forecasted winds. We decided to wait a few weeks and hope for better conditions. The plan now is to come down over the 17th-18th. I'll drop you a line before we head that way.
